Over the past several years, one message has driven the purpose for everything on this site: Men need deeper, more authentic friendships with other men.
That conviction grew out of my experience in my church’s men’s ministry, where the GodBuddies concept was born. This led to more than 350 posts, countless conversations about friendship with guys of all ages, my first self-published book, and several speaking opportunities and podcast appearances.
But those were largely for men with a belief in God.

So, I’m excited to release my second book, which is geared toward a broader, non-religious audience: The Journey Out of Your Man Cave: A Guide to Deeper, More Authentic Male Friendship.
This new book is written for guys from every background—believers, seekers, those who are unchurched, dechurched, have never stepped inside a church, temple, or synagogue, or have no faith at all. The need for better friends is universal and exists everywhere.
At some point, everyone will experience a crisis: loneliness, isolation, stress, job loss, financial difficulty, divorce, unexpected death, the need for work-life balance, the burden of failure. We also have the deep longing for authentic connection.
Why Two Books?
My first book focused on why men need better friendships. This next book is how all men can build those friendships.
Get Out of Your Man Cave: The Crisis of Male Friendship was written as part memoir, part confessional, part devotional, and part handbook. I share my struggle with workaholism that eventually pushed me toward depression and how deeper, more authentic friendships became an important part of my healing and spiritual growth. It also incudes practical information on the problems with male friendship and the important traits of friends learning to be more like Jesus Christ, our ultimate role model.
The Journey Out of Your Man Cave is written for a broader, non-religious audience, but the principles remain the same. It is a 12-week guide for a small group of fellas to develop better friendships. The new book offers guidance on identifying your personal man cave and the steps needed to move beyond surface-level relationships and into friendships built on trust, vulnerability, accountability, and mutual encouragement.
Different audience. Same mission.
There’s a New Website Too!
The release of The Journey Out of Your Man Cave book also marks the launch of GetOutofYourManCave.com.

This new website also takes a secular approach to helping men build meaningful friendships. It will include new content on the issues men face today. Not in an anti-female or political tone, but in ways that show how mature and proper manhood will help build more responsible adult men.
The reality is that all males need friends who help each other become more mature and responsible men.
Two Paths to the Same Destination
Together, these sites ad books represent one mission with two pathways: helping men leave the isolation of their proverbial “man cave” to discover the life-changing impact of genuine brotherhood.
God-Buddies will continue to provide biblical encouragement for men who want to grow in their faith and become more godly.
Get Out of Your Man Cave broadens that conversation, reaching men who may never walk through a church’s doors but still long for friendship, purpose, and belonging.
One path leads to a stronger faith. The other hopefully leads to more guys discovering faith.
Both paths can help the next generation become stronger, healthier men living in authentic relationships.
But as believers, we also important charge: to bring people to Christ.
Go and Make Disciples… and Better Friends
Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He gave His followers one final command: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:19–20)
Making disciples isn’t just about teaching truth. It’s about building relationships.
Jesus spent three years walking alongside twelve ordinary men—teaching them, encouraging them, challenging them, correcting them, praying with them, and ultimately laying down His life for them. He modeled the kind of authentic friendship that transforms lives.
We are called to do the same.
Don’t wait for better friendships to happen on their own. Invite a man to coffee. Make the phone call. Send the text. Ask how he’s really doing. Share your own struggles. Pray together. Open God’s Word together. Encourage one another. Challenge one another to become more like Christ.
Go and make disciples. Go and make better friends.
Because the strongest disciples are rarely made in isolation, but forged through authentic relationships with other men who love God, love one another, and sharpen one another as iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17).
Who is one man God is calling you to invest in this week?
Both books are available now in paperback and Kindle editions on the new website and on Amazon. If you’d like a signed copy, multiple copies for your men’s ministry or small group, or would like to schedule a speaking engagement, I’d love to hear from you.
