After my last post announced the launch of a new content channel, Get Out of Your Man Cave, I was asked a great question: “Why create a separate platform instead of simply expanding God-Buddies?”
The answer is simple. Because the need for better male friendships doesn’t stop at the church doors.
The Need Exists Outside the Church
Over the past several years, I’ve had conversations with men from every walk of life—church members, former church members, men of other faiths, and men with no faith background at all. The details of their lives may differ, but one theme keeps repeating itself.
They nodded their heads when we talked about the need for male friendship.
Many have friends they watch football with, play golf with, or work alongside. Yet very few have someone they can call when life falls apart. Few have a trusted friend who knows what they’re really struggling with. Even fewer have someone who will challenge them to become the man they were created to be.
Loneliness doesn’t discriminate.
It affects Christians and non-Christians. Young men and retirees. Married men and single men. Blue-collar workers and white-collar employees. Successful professionals and men trying to figure life out one day at a time.
That’s why I believe this conversation needs to happen with more people.
God’s Design for Humanity
As followers of Jesus Christ, we know the church offers something beautiful. Throughout Scripture, we see God’s design for community. From the Bible’s earliest statement that man should not be alone (Genesis 2:19) to my favorite verse about how men sharpen one another as iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17), God wants His people to grow together.
Even in the earliest church, believers devoted themselves to fellowship (Acts 2:42–47). They were instructed to carry one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2), confess their sins and pray for one another (James 5:16), and encourage one another daily (Hebrews 3:13; 10:24–25).
These aren’t just good ideas— they’re God’s blueprint for how humanity would thrive, not just survive.
Reaching Men Who May Never Walk Into a Church
At the same time, millions of men may never visit a Christian website, attend a Bible study, or walk through the doors of a church. But they are still searching for connection. They know something is missing. They want genuine friendships, even if they don’t yet have the words to describe what they’re looking for.
That’s where Get Out of Your Man Cave fits.
It begins with a universal conversation about friendship, isolation, and belonging—needs every man understands. It provides practical steps to help men move from isolation toward authentic relationships, regardless of where they are on their spiritual journey.
Why God-Buddies and Get Out of Your Man Cave Work Together
My original blog – which now has more than 350 posts since I started over 6 years ago – continues the conversation from a distinctly Christian perspective.
My primary goal is the same: to help develop more godly men who follow the ultimate role model for manhood: Jesus Christ.
The difference is simply the doorway through which they enter.
Some men will discover the importance of a faith-based brotherhood because they already want to grow in their faith. Some will reengage with their religious tradition.
Others may first encounter these ideas about deeper, more authentic male friendships because they’re lonely. They could simply be searching for stronger, healthier, and meaningful relationships with other men.
I’m perfectly comfortable letting God lead that journey.
In either case, if we can help one man leave isolation behind, connect with other men, strengthen his family, improve his mental and emotional health, and discover a deeper purpose for his life, then both platforms are accomplishing exactly what they were created to do.
Join the Movement
Whether you’ve been part of the God-Buddies community or prefer the broader conversation at Get Out of Your Man Cave, I invite you to be part of my mission to build better male friendships.
Spread the word to another man who could benefit from stronger friendships. Tell them about either content channel. Share my posts. Send a text or make that phone call to schedule lunch. Start having deeper conversations over coffee or a beer. Ask someone how they are really doing. Tell them what’s going on in your life or where you are struggling.
Even small steps often lead to meaningful friendships that can change a man’s life. Together, help me reach men who are desperately looking for connection, purpose, and authentic brotherhood.
The world doesn’t just need more men. It needs men with better friends. And better men are rarely built alone.
