Men and Their Emotions: Fear

This series about a man’s emotions started with posts on “Why” we need to manage our emotions, “How” God’s gift of emotions became distorted, and “What” we are to do to become more godly men. The last post on Anger describes the effects on our brain and our relationships.  In this post, I write about our emotion of Fear.  The Fear of Being “Enough”  In his article, This is the Single Man’s Greatest Fear, Ben Weaver suggests that men live as if we are “not enough”. Men and Their Emotions: Anger

The three posts after the introduction in this current series focused on “Why” men need to manage their emotions, “How” God’s gift of emotions became distorted, and “What” do with our emotions to become more godly men. In this next post, I get into the first of the 8 emotions that I believe men need to learn how to manage: our Anger.  Anger is one of the most challenging emotions for men, especially since it is most often associated with negative reactions leading to poor choices, damaged relationships, and sometimes even violence. Unhealthy anger gives us the illusion of maintaining power or control but it actually conceals our true feelings and blinds our ability to identify the wrong that’s been done.

Men and Their Emotions: The What

The last two posts explained the “Why” we need to manage our emotions and the “How” of God gifted us the emotions that became distorted by original sin that still affect us today. Those two posts, plus this one about the “What” to do, provide the backbone for how we can become more godly men by controlling our emotions. Here is the list again of the emotions that I believe men need to learn how to manage: Anger Fear (especially, our fear of failure) Sadness Happiness Pridefulness (Ego & Power) Guilt (Shame) Anxiety (Worry) Boredom (Aloneness) As I go through the “What” of each emotion, I will organize each post into 4-parts that I hope you will find helpful: define the emotion describe the environmental and physiological reaction provide some biblical context suggest an appropriate response for God Buddies Emotions Fundamentally Defined Let’s first understand that emotions are a part of
