Do you want authentic friendships?

This week’s weekend wisdom comes from Wire for Men, a short, twice-weekly devotional designed to help men to connect with God right in the middle of their busyness.

As you will read, author Justin Camp uses the story of David and Jonathan who had a bond that many guys would like and many really need.  I also wrote previously about David and Jonathan’s friendship in my series on GBs in the Bible (that’s GodBuddies for those who are new to my blog).

Check out Justin’s devotional below by clicking on the picture below.

Brother,

Do you long for a friend who’ll stick closer than a brother? Someone who’ll stand with you all the way to the end?

When I think of those kinds of friendships, David and Jonathan from the Bible come to mind. Those guys had a bond like few others. They were willing to help each other in their darkest moments. Give each other the higher place of honor. Lay down their lives for each other.

“Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them.” (Romans 12:9, NLT).

Maybe David-and-Jonathan friendships seem out of reach. I wouldn’t blame you. This culture of ours tells us that close, honest community is super rare or simply doesn’t exist for us men.

But that’s a lie. A total lie! God made you for deep, authentic fellowship. He made me for it too.

Especially during their teenage years, we prayed often they were making choices about substance and alcohol
